Decent movie. Probably best known for portraying the utter depravity of Nazi Fascism, the cinematography and acting is solid. Unfortunately the main character, Martin, is the least likeable character in the entire film. Although I suppose that is the point, the worst person is the one who eventually rises to power. Just made for an uncomfortable watch. I enjoyed other anti Fascist films more particularly Night Porter and the Conformist.

This movie brought out a myriad of emotions. Excellent story with twists and surprises. Donald O'Connor, and Vera Ellen are paired beautifully together. One of the greatest love stories of the golden ages .

I would love to see Screen Junkies do an "Honest Trailer" of this movie. I can just imagine the announcer saying something like "Go back and experience all the wonders of Victorian England. From workhouses to child labor to domestic violence and child grooming. Watch as Oliver gets passed from one old man (Mr. Bumble) to another old man (Mr. Sowerberry) to another old man (Fagin) and another (Mr. Brownlow). What is it with old men and Oliver?"

And then, Pearls advertising probably Hamlet Cigars or Milk Tray and then Walls Ice Cream will be served at the interval.

I just watched a news broadcast that said a man and friends started a 1 Acre Country of their own based on this movie And the leader calls himself his excellency baugh. And he is serious Not satire like this movie.

The trailer editor really outdid themselves, because the film itself is... I give it 2 stars. It has a great concept and script, with great moments here and there, but the performances are best left for the trailers.

Complete drivel. How on earth so - called ' serious ' actors got roped into this is a mystery. Dirk Bogarde in particular spent much time in his later years sharing his thoughts on Culture and Art etc. Not sure how he justified appearing in this glorified pantomime .?
